Holidaying Brits more likely to sunbathe than visit cultural attractions

Brits who have booked flights abroad spend more time sunbathing and drinking in bars than holidaymakers from other European countries.

This is according to a new survey by TripAdvisor, which also revealed that UK holidaymakers spend the least amount of time embarking on cultural outings.

British tourists were found to spend an average of two hours and 53 minutes a day soaking up the rays, which compares to the Spanish average of one hour and 58 minutes.

It was also revealed that, on average, Brits spend one hour and 38 minutes a day in the pub or bar, compared to Italians who spend just 49 minutes a day sampling the local brew.

TripAdvisor spokesman Luke Fredberg said that Brits typically enjoy "sun, shopping and sangria" while away on holiday.

"Although the survey shows we may not be the biggest 'culture vultures', we do place value on enjoying cultural pursuits as well as sun, on our holidays," he commented.

Brits were shown to spend an average of two hours and 17 minutes visiting museums and looking at local architecture, which compares to Spanish travellers' three hours and 28 minutes.

A separate TripAdvisor poll recently revealed that the overwhelming majority of Brits (79 percent) think there should be child-free zones on aeroplanes.
