This new advice replaces the old recommendations, which advised against all travel to the Thai capital.
While the unrest in Bangkok is beginning to return to normal, the situation remains unpredictable and, as a result, a curfew is in place in the city in addition to 23 other provinces.
UK nationals already in the Thai capital are advised by the Foreign Office to respect the curfew and stay in their accommodation between midnight and 04:00.
The Foreign Office has stressed that its advice does not apply to travellers making a scheduled stop in Bangkok ahead of an onward flight to another destination.
It also recommends against all but essential travel to the northern city of Chiang Mai, where a threat of demonstrations and violence remains.
The Tourism Council of Thailand recently adjusted its tourism projection for 2010 to a maximum of 13 million from the previous 14 million following the unrest in the country.
