Croatia and Turkey among most popular summer holiday destinations

Holidaymakers on a budget are finding Croatia and Turkey to be this summer's value-for-money destinations, it has been revealed.

According to figures from currency experts International Currency Exchange (ICE), the Croatian kuna was the fourth most ordered currency in June, while nine months ago it was the 12th most ordered.

The value of the pound against the Turkish lira has increased by 12 percent since the start of the year, which has ensured that the currency is now the ICE's sixth most ordered.

Topping the list was the euro, closely followed by the US dollar and the Canadian dollar.

Rounding off the top five was the Thai baht.

ICE head of marketing Andrew Hamilton explained that the pound has recovered against the euro by 12 percent, despite still being down on a year ago.

"This means UK holidaymakers are flocking to the likes of Turkey and Croatia, pushing up sales of these currencies," he said.

Approximately ten million tourists visit Croatia every year, drawn by its stunning coastline and eight national parks.
