Travel Tip #14: eat like a local

You may be a tourist, but that doesn’t mean you have to eat like one.

Restaurants and cafes close to any major tourist attractions are likely to be the most expensive in town, yet they rarely serve the best food in town.

When it comes to feeding time, avoid eating in the most touristic zones and instead head a little off the path and find out where the locals chow down.

How? Consult your guidebook (the usual suspects like Lonely Planet and Rough Guide are your friend here) or even better, just ask a local where they recommend.

Your friendly hotel manager, shop keeper or barmaid are normally happy to point you in the direction of their favourite eateries, so don’t be shy and keep that phrase book handy.
