The inaugural service from the Docklands airport to JFK, an all-business flight, took off yesterday (September 29th).
BA will operate the route on a twice daily basis and use its prestigious flight number BA001, previously used by Concorde, on the service.
Just 32 seats are available on the flight, with business passengers able to check in a mere 15 minutes before boarding. All seats convert into fully flat beds in a cabin space that promises to feel spacious and contemporary.
Willie Walsh, BA's chief executive, said that the unique route keeps up with the airline's tradition of "delivering world-beating and innovative new services".
"For the first time, the City has a tailor-made premium service to New York on its doorstep offering the most productive possible use of time for businesspeople travelling between the two great financial districts," he commented.
Earlier this month, the carrier took delivery of two uniquely configured Airbus A318s, which operate on the all-business route to JFK.
