Deemed “ebay for space” by Time magazine, Airbnb is an online market place that allows anyone with space, to rent it.
We’re talking any type of space here; holiday cottages, private rooms, entire apartments, bed and breakfasts, boutique hotels, castles, tree houses and more.
The spread of locations is pretty impressive; from Belgium to Botswana, India to Italy, Japan to Jamaica, the site boasts accommodation from “real people in 4032 cities across 134 countries”, figures which are growing daily.
The ‘Top 40 coolest listings’ is a nice touch and shows off all sorts of luxurious places to lay your head including the Mushroom Dome Cabin in the Californian woods, the 727 Fuselage tree house in Costa Rica and the Aircamp Furillen in Sweden, a silver caravan set in a moonscape of volcano-like crags by the sea.
Airbnb.com is along very similar lines to recent Skyscanner website of the week CrashPadder, and will appeal to the independent traveller type looking for a good deal and an interesting alternative to the standard hotel room.
