Poland from £35
Catch some action at Euro 2012 with a last-minute trip to Poland. Games are being played in Warsaw, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw, but there are a variety of options for cheap flights to Polish cities from the UK. Join the Irish fans who will doubtless create a great atmosphere in their second and third matches against Spain in Gdansk on 14 June and Italy in Poznan on Monday 18th.
Barcelona, Spain from £38
Barcelona is increasingly well known as a party destination for weekending Brits. It’s no wonder, with its nightlife where the dancing goes on ‘til dawn and beyond. It’s also brilliant for a city break with the family. There are all those amazing Gaudi buildings, Parc de Ciutadella for chilling out, the aquarium at Port Vell for gaping at seahorses and sharks, and the Ramblas for stalls, shows and atmosphere. And if all else fails, hit the beach at Barceloneta.
Dusseldorf, Germany from £39
Dusseldorf? For a city break? Yes indeed! Not the first name on the teamsheet for a weekend away in Europe, sophisticated Dusseldorf may be better known as a city in which to do business but it has a happening arts scene and a surprisingly lively nightlife. Head for the Altstadt, the historic quarter on the Rhine, otherwise known as ‘the longest bar in the world’ where you’ll soon see first-hand evidence that the locals know how to party.
Paris, France from £44
Ah Paris, city of culture, romance, fine food… and Disneyland. Paris is a top city for kids, its sights so famous that even smaller ones will be familiar with them from films and cartoons. But if you have wee ones in tow, Disneyland Paris is a must, especially as it is currently celebrating its 20th birthday with special shows and events. Pluck up the courage to go on Space Mountain, take a swashbuckling ride with the Pirates of the Caribbean, and meet your (sorry, your kids’) fave Disney characters.
Venice, Italy £49
Take a summer break in the famously romantic city of canals and culture. With more artistic masterpieces per square kilometre than anywhere else in the world, Venice is heaven for art lovers as well as those who have eyes only for each other. The best way to explore Venice is by Vaporetto (water bus), or for a more romantic experience, hop aboard a Gondola and cruise the winding Venetian waterways with musical accompaniment ('O sole mio' optional).
