Zurich

Hotels in Zurich

Forget everything you think you know about Zurich. Yes, it’s still home to the world’s fourth largest stock exchange, as well as the headquarters of numerous corporations and banks, but button-down business capital it is not. In fact, over the past few years Zurich has become a vibrant and trendy city that could easily rival the likes of Berlin and London.

Put simply, Zurich knows how to party. The August ‘Street Parade’ is one of the biggest techno parties in the world, and attracts more visitors than the Notting Hill Carnival. The year-round nightlife is buzzing and vibrant, with around 500 bars and 80 nightclubs with more hotspots opening all the time.

There are still plenty of medieval churches for those who want to sample a bit of traditional Switzerland. Plenty of excellent restaurants, a varied cultural calendar, and art galleries galore mean that there’s never a dull moment. Culture vultures, party animals, and business people are all sure to have a great time in Zurich.

Like every large city, Zurich can be split into a number of neighbourhoods all with their own unique quirks. The city is famous for its efficient public transport, so whatever district you end up booking a hotel in it’s not hard to get out and explore the rest of the city.

Aldstadt- Kreis 1

The historic heart of Zurich, and where most of the famous sights are concentrated. In the Aldstadt you’ll find intimate medieval alleyways, beautiful Renaissance architecture, and landmark churches like the double towered Grossmunster. It’s also home to Banhofstrasse, one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world. Hotels, restaurants, and museums aplenty can be found in this bustling district.

Enge and Wollishofen - Kreis 2

This lakeside neighbourhood is a big hit in summer. Locals lounge in the outdoor pools and on the terraces of pavement cafes, while people take to the lake for a spot of sailing. During August it plays host to the city’s famous Street Parade, but you can find good nightlife in the area throughout the year.

Langstrasse – Kreis 4

There’s always something going on in this multicultural neighbourhood. It’s home to the red light district, but is currently going through a gentrification project which means it’s a pretty safe place to stay. Trendy bars, nightclubs, and cabarets make it a great base for party animals. The neighbourhood is known for its many street parties and festivals, including the largest Latin festival in Europe.

Zurich West - Kreis 5

Once an industrial district, Kreis 5 has been regenerated: and is now the trendiest part of town. Some of the city’s coolest restaurants are in this neighbourhood, as well as a plethora of hip design shops, art galleries, and independent boutiques. During the night the area comes alive with techno clubs and chic wine bars. There’s a good selection of accommodation too, with both mid-range and boutique hotels opening in the area.
