Hotels in Lincoln

Lincoln is a true hidden gem in the heart of England. With an old town brimming with history and culture, and a modern quayside packed with lively restaurants and bars, it’s certain to charm even the most jaded visitor.

Lincoln is a compact city seemingly designed for exploring on foot. You can walk from one end of Lincoln to the other in an hour. There are plenty of excellent luxury hotels in the Cathedral Quarter, right in the heart of the old town, but if you book a hotel in another part of Lincoln you’ll still be within walking distance of the main attractions.

Hotels in Lincoln also make the perfect base for exploring the Lincolnshire countryside. Just outside the city you’ll find plenty of sleepy villages, easy-going walking trails, and stately homes to discover. With popular coastal resorts like Cleethorpes, Skegness, and Sutton-on-Sea nearby, you can enjoy the best of the British seaside too.

Lincoln’s hill-top city centre is a mish-mash of historic British architecture. The cobbled streets are lined with Tudor buildings, while the imposing medieval cathedral and Norman castle are well worth the climb up ‘Steep Hill’ to the Cathedral Quarter.

The castle boasts an original copy of the Magna Carta, a Victorian prison museum, and a colony of ducks (despite the fact that there’s no pond nearby). There are also some excavated Roman ruins to wander around. Walk downhill from the Cathedral Quarter and you’ll find the Cultural Quarter. As expected, this part of town has plenty in the way of galleries and theatres. There’s also a pretty park, and the 14th Century Jew’s House: one of the oldest properties in England.

There’s plenty of evening entertainment to be found in Lincoln, with no shortage of cafes, restaurants, and bars. In the Cathedral Quarter you’ll find lots of old fashioned English pubs, set in ancient buildings with vaulted ceilings. Things take a turn for the trendy down by the Brayford Waterfront, with its classy rooftop cocktail bars with views across the water.
