Hotels in Lima

Peru’s capital city is one of Latin America’s true hidden gems. Look past the city’s characteristic fog and you’ll find plenty to impress. Colonial era churches and cloisters, modern art galleries, restaurants serving the best food in Peru, and grand museums packed with gold and treasures. Add some trendy beach side neighbourhoods and a UNESCO listed historical core and there’s plenty to keep you occupied.

Whether you’re stopping over for a night en route to Machu Picchu, or enjoying a week long city break, there are plenty of excellent places to stay in Lima. The only question is which neighbourhood (or barrio) to choose?

Accommodation in the Centro Historico is best for those who are only spending a few days in Lima, or those who like having all of the main attractions on their doorstep. The historic centre of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and has lots of grand buildings which date back to the era when Lima was the seat of the Spanish government in South America.

Slightly cheaper hotels can be found in the three neighbourhoods surrounding the historic centre: the Barrios Altos, Santa Beatriz, and the Barrio Chino. The Barrio Altos are home to Lima’s very oldest buildings, while Santa Beatriz is home to the Estadio Nacional stadium. Barrio China is Lima’s Chinatown.

Hotels in the beach side neighbourhood of Barranco are the best option for party animals. The area is packed with trendy bars and nightclubs.
