Hotels in Indianapolis

Sports-mad and clean-cut Indianapolis is a fantastic destination for a city break. There are plenty of hotels in Indianapolis to choose from, whether you’re visiting for work or for fun.

Motoring fans will love a trip to Indianapolis, often nicknamed the “Racing Capital of the World” due to its famous Motor Speedway. Major races held in the city include the Indy 500 and the Allstate 400, which takes place at the Brickyard. Thousands of people flock to the city for these events, so it’s a good idea to book your accommodation well in advance. This is especially true of the Indy 500, which takes place over Labour Day Weekend (usually the last weekend in May).

Indianapolis may be famous for its motor racing and amateur sports, but also has plenty of cultural attractions to enjoy. There’s a wide array of museums, covering everything from contemporary art to miniature houses. The Crispus Attucks Museum celebrates Indiana’s African American heritage, while the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library plays tribute to the city’s well-loved counterculture novelist.

Indianapolis hosts lots of interesting festivals throughout the year. It’s well worth checking the city’s events calendar before planning your trip to find out exactly what’s on and when. The Vintage Indiana Wine and Food Fest is a must for foodies, and takes place in early June.  The Indiana State Fair in August is a great place to discover local ‘Hoosier’ culture and sample some fantastic street food. The Indy Jazz Fest in Mid-September is also worth visiting.

Indianapolis has plenty of interesting neighbourhoods to explore. Broad Ripple Village is a bohemian district which sits alongside the canal. There are restaurants, independent shops, and a buzzing nightlife. Look for hotels near Massachusetts Avenue in the downtown district to be close to great shopping, excellent art galleries, and a wide array of restaurants.

There are lots of great places to stay in Indianapolis, with most of the large American and international chains offering a comfortable base in the city. There are plenty of independent hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses, and hostels to choose from, too. Like all large cities, Indianapolis offers accommodation for all budgets and tastes: whether you’re looking for a shared room in a no-frills hostel or a swanky suite in a luxurious downtown hotel.
