Hotels in Burlington

With its quaint architecture, beautiful lakeside setting, and vibrant cultural life, the city of Burlington makes the perfect base for a holiday in Vermont.

Although Burlington is Vermont’s largest city, it’s actually quite small by American standards. The lovely downtown district is easy to get around on foot, so if you hire a car you might want to drop it in a parking garage for the day.

You can easily spend hours wandering around Burlington, popping into the trendy boutiques at Church Place Market before grabbing a coffee at one of the laid back pavement cafes. Street performers are in residence all year round in this pleasant pedestrian precinct. The downtown neighbourhood is jam packed with interesting little art galleries, dotted between the fantastic bars and restaurants.

Burlington is home to four colleges, and the huge student population has given the city a youthful and lively ambience.  Burlington is the best place in Vermont for nightlife, with plenty of trendy bars in the downtown neighbourhood and a range of high-scale restaurants in the nearby Shelburne Village.

The most popular time to visit Burlington is during autumn to see the fall foliage. The trees turn beautiful shades of yellow, orange and red, reaching their peak at the beginning of October. There’s a real buzz in the air during autumn, as the students are back at university and the nightlife is in full swing.

When you’re looking for accommodation in Burlington it’s worth checking out the city’s event calendar first. Burlington plays host to a huge array of interesting festivals each year, and these can influence room rates. It would also be a shame to miss out on one of the huge events just by a few days.

Although the annual events calendar changes each year, some of the most un-missable events include the Mardi Gras parade (every February or March), the Discover Jazz festival (the first two weeks in June), and the Vermont Brewers Festival (in mid-July). Another exciting event is the Festival of Fools during early August, which celebrates the city’s best street performers.

Even if you’re visiting Burlington for work it’s hard not to get swept away in the lively cultural ambience of the city. With Skyscanner you can find the best hotels in town: whether you want to be in the heart of the action, or away from temptation on the outskirts.
