Hotels in Bilbao

Planning your next holiday to Bilbao? Let Skyscanner find you the best deals on Bilbao hotels.

Bilbao lies in the heart of the beautiful Basque Country. Surrounded by lush green plains which the Nervion River gently navigates, Bilbao is a city packed with museums, galleries and history.

In addition to plenty of flights to Bilbao to choose from, hotels in Bilbao range from cheap to utter luxury. The Albergue Bilbao is a little outside the city centre but can be reached easily by bus while Ganbara Hostel is a cheap choice in the heart of the Old Town. If you like a boutique hotel with history, the 19th century Petit Palace Arana is the oldest in Bilbao, in the heart of the Old Town. The designer chic Miro Hotel is just a stone’s throw from the Guggenheim and simple, friendly B&B’s and pensions  like the Pension Arias, the Ria de Bilbao and the charming Hotel Bilbi, offer family friendly comfort.

The Guggenheim is Bilbao’s most iconic buildings, concealing exquisite collections of art but also extraordinary to look at in it’s own right. Sitting obediently outside is the beautiful sight of Jeff Koon’s giant puppy made entirely from flowers. The Basque Museum, Museo de Bellas Artes and the Bullfighting Museum serve up more culture alongside historical eerie Gothic churches like the Cathedral of St. James.

Mercado de la Ribera is one of the largest covered markets in Europe selling exemplary local produce while Gran Via is the place to shop for designer labels, washed down with a coffee in the stunning Plaza Moyua. Get away from it all in Parque Etxebarria; a green haven in the city’s heart.  In the summer, El Arenal Parque hosts open air concerts and August brings noise, colour and music in the festival Semana Grande.

Cafes and cool bars line the streets. They light up and liven up at night when locals come out in their droves to eat the Basque version of tapas, Pintxos, dance the night away, hear live music and feast on the finest foods of the region.

Did you know..?

You won’t have any trouble getting around Bilbao thanks to it having one of the best transport systems serving an estimated 1 million people. Trains, trams, funicular and buses ensure Bilbao runs like clockwork.

The must try Basque tapas (pintxos) are some of the most creative, artistic and imaginative in the world! Almost (but not quite) too beautiful to eat!

The famous Guggenheim Museum’s design was based on the concept of ‘water’, since a river runs through Bilbao and there is even a beach a short train ride away. It shimmers and catches the light just like a body of water.
