Gamla Stan

Stockholm’s old town is packed with historical buildings, cultural heritage, and souvenir shops. It sits on one of the 14 islands that make up the city, and is home to both the Swedish Parliament and Royal palace. You can easily spend a few happy hours wandering through the narrow cobbled streets, admiring the orange and cream buildings.

Bohemian boutiques, trendy restaurants, and excellent nightlife can be found on this island; one of the hippest parts of Stockholm. It also boasts some of the best views across the city and out to the Baltic Sea. The nearby island of Långholmen has some of the city’s best beaches, as well as an infamous prison which has now been converted into a hotel.

The bustling business district of Stockholm, and the heart of the city, there’s always something going on in Norrmalm. As well as big banks and offices, the neighbourhood is also home to department stores, theatres, museums, and restaurants. There’s some great nightlife around Odenplan square, and world-class shopping on Drottninggatan.

Posh hotels and high end shopping can be found in this upmarket neighbourhood. It’s a good place to stay if you’re travelling as a family, with a nearby forest providing plenty of lovely walking trails while the Gröna Lund amusement park is sure to keep kids entertained. There are also plenty of interesting museums, such as the Skansen open air museum and the Science and Technology museum.
