Hotels in Jacksonville

Jacksonville is a huge cosmopolitan city with a sweet Southern heart. Hotels in Jacksonville are perfect for exploring this underrated city and discovering Florida’s north-eastern coast.

Jacksonville is the largest city in the continental USA. If you’re not booking a hotel bang smack in the city centre, it’s a good idea to hire a car. Having a vehicle makes it easier to visit far flung neighbourhoods, the coast, and the region’s fantastic golf courses. Like most American cities, Jacksonville is very car friendly. There’s plenty of accommodation with car parking to choose from.

Jacksonville’s downtown district is big and bold, with a skyline dominated by glitzy skyscrapers, big corporate offices, and plenty of luxurious chain hotels. Scratch the surface of the city and you’ll find a thriving arts scene, quaint historic neighbourhoods, and excellent restaurants.

Foodies will love a trip to Jacksonville, especially if they’re into seafood. Some of the best places to eat in Jacksonville are the simple seafood shacks, which serve fresh fish in a cheap and cheerful setting. They’re a big hit with the locals, and are definitely a must-visit during your trip.

The Riverside neighbourhood is a great place for a wander. The district has plenty of historic buildings to check out, as well as a range of independent shops and cafes in the bohemian Five Points area. Riverside also hosts a weekly Arts Market, which includes farm fresh produce as well as local crafts.

Another historic neighbourhood worth exploring is Avondale. It’s a good place to see some seriously eclectic architecture. Half timbered Tudor homes sit side by side with Mediterranean revival properties, showcasing the American passion for individuality. The area has a few high end shops and posh restaurants, perfect if you feel like a fancy evening out.

You don’t have to travel far from the city to hit some great Florida beaches: it takes as little as half an hour to reach the coast. The best part is, the beaches are less crowded than those of the south.  Jacksonville Beach is famous for its nightlife, and also has plenty of accommodation on offer for those who prefer to stay by the sea. Ponte Vedra Beach is also excellent, and has some fantastic golf courses too. Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach are both peaceful, and perfect for a quiet day on the sand.
