Flights to Kelowna

The largest city in Canada’s Okanagan region offers something for everyone. Choose from water sports on the lake and snow sports in the mountains, enjoy relaxing hiking trails in the valley and spend an afternoon sampling local wines, or just take time to explore the bustling downtown neighbourhood. Museums, cultural attractions, and a buzzing little nightlife make Kelowna an excellent base for exploring the region.

 

Airports in Kelowna

Kelowna International Airport (YLW) is one of Canada’s busiest airports, and serves the city of Kelowna. The airport has plenty to keep you entertained before departure, with displays showcasing the history and culture of the region and artworks by local sculptors. There’s a $15 (about £8)* airport improvement fee for all departures. This will automatically be included in the price of your ticket.

 

Airlines that fly to Kelowna

No airlines currently offer direct flights to Kelowna from the UK.  Most flights to Kelowna set off from domestic Canadian airports, and are operated by airlines inlcuding Air Canada, Air North, Central Mountain Air, Pacific Coastal airlines, SkyLink Express, WestJet, and WestJet Encore. You can also fly from the USA with Alaska Airlines (Horizon Air), Sunwing Airlines, and United Express.

 

Getting into Kelowna

Bus number 23 connects the airport to the bus station, where you can catch the number 8 or 97 into the city. One way tickets cost $2* (about £1)*. Buses come every 15 minutes during the day, but don’t run on weekends or after 6:30pm.

Taxis are available outside the airport. Expect to pay $40* (about £21)* for the journey between the airport and downtown. Bear in mind taxi prices can fluctuate depending on driver and time of day. It’s always a good idea to ask for a price estimate before setting off.

Car hire is available at Kelowna Airport from Avis, Budget, Enterprise and National.

When to visit Kelowna

Kelowna is an excellent year round destination. In summer it’s great for lake-side relaxation, boating, and kite boarding. During the winter it provides the perfect hub for a skiing holiday, thanks to the nearby Big White and Silver Star resorts. Autumn is the best time for wine lovers, as the local wineries and vineyards release their new vintages.
