Thomas Cook is a jack of all trades in the travel industry. As well as offering package holidays and cruise deals, the company also offers flight only deals through their airline Thomas Cook Airlines. Previously known as flythomascook, the service was launched so that travellers could fly with Thomas Cook without committing to a package deal.
Based in Manchester and flying from over 20 British airports, Thomas Cook carries passengers to over 60 of the world’s top holiday destinations. The airline has won a range of awards for punctuality, and also bagged the silver award for Most Environmentally Responsible Airline in 2008.
With a range of new routes in the pipeline, Thomas Cook Airlines are gearing up to become one of Britain’s best loved airlines.
How to Check In
You can check in online via the Thomas Cook Airlines website. Online check in opens 48 hours before departure and closes 24 hours before departure. You can also check in at the airport, where check in opens three hours before departure and closes one hour before departure. Thomas Cook also offers ‘Sundown Check-in’ at London Gatwick and Manchester Airports. This allows passengers who have a lot of baggage to drop off to check in at the airport from 4pm to 10pm the day before they fly. There’s a fee of £5 per bag, but it means you can go straight to the gate when you turn up for your flight in the morning.
Baggage Allowance and Fees
Flights within the USA include a 23kg checked baggage allowance, but for other flights baggage must be booked separately. Baggage can be booked from £19 on short haul, £22 on medium haul, and £28 on long-haul depending on the flight route. Passengers who book their baggage online benefit from a discount of up to 40%.
Seating – Leg Room, Choosing Seats
Seats are allocated on check in, but if you want to choose your own seat you can do so for a small fee. Prices start at £6.50 on short haul flights, £9.50 on medium haul, and £12.50 on long haul. Child seats are slightly less expensive, coming in at £3.25 on short haul, £4.75 on medium, and £6.25 on long haul. Thomas Cook offer fairly standard legroom, with a 31inch seat pitch on long-haul economy flights and 29 inches on short and medium haul flights. The premium cabin on long haul flights offers slightly more room to stretch out, with a 35 inch seat pitch.
Credit cards are charged at 2% of the cost of the booking.
Meals, Snacks, Drinks
Peckish travellers can order a range of drinks and snacks from the Cafe Cloud menu on board. Celebrity chef James Martin has teamed up with the airline to create a range of tasty hot meals, which can be purchased for £8 on short haul flights and £10 long haul. It’s possible to pre-order your in-flight meals and little luxuries such as champagne when you book your flight.
Thomas Cook Airlines is the second most punctual charter airline in the UK, coming in slightly more punctual than Monarch Airlines and less punctual than Thomson Airways. In 2013, 77% of summer flights arrived on time, while 76% of winter flights arrived on-time.
